Although most people on the Island probably know Andrew Zinck as an academic (he holds a PhD in musicology from the University of Toronto), when he's not teaching music history at the University of Prince Edward Island, he is busy as a performer and composer. Since the mid-eighties, he has helped entertain theatre audiences in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and PEI as musical director and pianist for numerous amateur and professional stage productions, including such hits as Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Man of La Mancha, The Music Man, Ain't Misbehavin', They're Playing Our Song, The Fantasticks, and Godspell. In the past few years, Andrew has taken on the role of director, arranger, and pianist for Charlottetown's Rising Tide, a women's vocal trio that has been acquiring a reputation for innovative interpretations of sacred repertoire. In December 2002, he conducted the premiere performance of his most recent composition, Journey to Bethlehem, a dramatic cantata for youth choir and narrator.
